Why St. Agnes?

Our mission is to nurture children and their families through sharing Christ’s love while instilling academic excellence.

Our mission statement reflects our commitment to using the Nurtured Heart Approach® school-wide, nurturing both children and their families. Developed by Howard Glasser, the approach is more than a parenting or teaching tool. It builds healthy relationships. It is an act of seeing the greatness in someone and reflecting back in the moment what you see to build inner wealth in each individual.

In addition to traditional education strategies, we also apply these innovative methods:

Multiage Education recognizes all children learn to walk and talk at different developmental stages of growth, therefore academic growth also happens at different ages. We recognize each child’s learning style and pace of learning. An enriching and stimulating learning environment is provided allowing to accommodate all learners where the primary focus is on the student. The St. Agnes School multi-age classroom consists of students ages of 4, 5, and 6. This learning environment allows students to become natural leaders and mentors among their peers.

The Daily 5™
is a series of literacy activities in which the students work independently on meaningful reading and writing while the classroom teacher meets with individuals and/or small groups. Students cycle through five activities: 1) read to self, 2) read to someone, 3) work on writing, 4)word work, and 5) listen to reading. This framework helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working with peers. The goal is to foster these good habits and develop lifelong skills of independent literacy.

Action Based Learning™ develops necessary components to enhance whole-brain learning and to access the part of the brain that may be otherwise underdeveloped. Station progressions help students master the necessary components for optimal learning to occur. The concepts in Action Based Learning are based upon brain research that supports the link of movement and physical activity to increase academic performance. Action Based Learning is part of every K-2 students learning each week.

  • Small Class Sizes of typically 10-15 students in each classroom. This allows for more interaction between the student and teacher resulting in academic excellence.
  • Multigrade Classrooms where students develop better study habits as they become independent learners. They also develop a greater degree of social responsibility through cooperation, respectfulness, and consideration while working with their peers. Grades 3 & 4 and grades 5 & 6 are the current multi-grade classrooms.
  • Tuition: Several tuition plans are available. Families can choose which option works best for their household. Tuition assistance is also available in the form of scholarships and sponsorships. We strive to meet every family’s needs.
  • Fundraising: There are many fundraising levels for St. Agnes School families depending on their time commitment and need.
